Zach Helton joined Bluefield State University Athletics in October 2020 as the Director of Broadcasting and Voice of the Big Blue for the Big Blue Sports Network.
Zach, a graduate and former student-athlete at Bluefield State, brings his passion and experience for every broadcast to the Big Blue family. His hands-on approach can be seen in everything that is delivered on the Big Blue Sports Network, which he founded when returning to Bluefield in 2020.
Zach began his broadcasting career in 2012 after graduating from Bluefield State in Charlotte, North Carolina. He worked with ESPN Charlotte, WEND, and the Charlotte Knights.
Helton’s career took him to Nebraska, New York, and Maryland before he returned home to the Southern West Virginia/Southwest Virginia area to focus on local sports coverage, leading to his return to his alma mater.
In addition to his duties at Bluefield State, Zach also serves as the Sports Director at First Media Services in Bluefield and as the Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the Bluefield Ridge Runners of the Appalachian League.
Zach, a US Army veteran, lives in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, with his wife Hanna and daughter Eliana.
