Box Score 2 Salem, W.Va.— The Bluefield State Volleyball team has improved their win steak to five after going 2-0 at a Tri-Match at Salem International University today.
The Lady Blues defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-11) and Salem International University 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-18). The Lady Blues record is 9-4 on the season.
WVWC Results
The Lady Blues' first match of the day was against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Lady Blues defeated the Bobcats 3-1.
The Lady Blues out-hit the Bobcats with 120 to 119 with 44 kills to 30 kills.
Junior Tyann Thomas had the game high with 15 kills off of 28 attempts. She added in 9 digs and 1 block assist. Sophomore Brittany Bonamy had 10 kills, 1 block, and 1 block assist. Sophomore Brittney Deveaux had 8 kills, 6 block assists, and 3 digs. Sophomore setter Alee Quint put up 34 set assists during the match.
Sophomore Jessie Rehwald had an outstanding defensive match with 17 digs, a game high. She also had 2 serving aces and 2 set assists.
SIU Results
In the second match of the day, the Lady Blues defeated Salem International University easily in three straight sets. BSC overpowered SIU offensively with 40 kills and 9 serving aces compared to 14 kills and 4 serving aces. The Lady Blues also had 10 more defensive digs (35) than the Tigers (25).
Junior Tyann Thomas led the Lady Blues with 12 kills and added in 4 digs. Senior Sashane Watson and Sophomores Brittany Bonamy and Brittney Deveaux each had 7 kills each. Also, Junior Tanasia Blake had 6 kills.
Sophomore Alee Quint had 36 set assists and 6 digs. Sophomore Jessie Rehwald had the game high in digs with 11. Junior Thais Nogueira-Nunes also had 6 digs. Junior Leandrea Armbrister had the team high in serving aces with 3 and had 2 digs.
The Lady Blues look to push their win streak to six on Oct. 6th at home against West Virginia Tech at 7:00 p.m.
