Bluefield, W.Va.— The Bluefield State Men's Basketball team lost 60-64 to Shaw University tonight in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.Va.

The Big Blues started out on the board first with a layup by Aaron Williams. The Big Blues had a 3-point lead, 12-9 just over 5 minutes into the game. The Shaw Bears, however went on a 20-8 run to take a late 29-20 lead at about the 3 minute mark.

The Big Blues stormed back to finish the end of the first half strong. The Big Blues cut the lead to 4 points, 27-31 at the break.

The second half started out with 2 offensive fouls, one by each team. The Bears got right into their offense after that and went on a 9-0 run to take a 40-27 lead under 15 minutes, causing Coach Jackson to take a timeout. The Shaw Bears stayed on top for the majority of the second half.

Big Blues finally took a 53-52 lead after a dunk by Aaron Williams. But, the Bears took it right back after two big three's by Akeem Echols (Shaw) to take a 58-53 lead with 1:46 on the clock.

After an old-fashioned 3-point play by Jamal McCoy, the Big Blues were within 2 points with 6 seconds remaining. Shaw was immediately fouled as they inbounded the ball and made both free-throws to seal the 64-60 victory.

For the game, the Big Blues shot 32.8% from the field, 23.7% from three, and 73.7% from the free-throw line. The Bears shot 48% from the field, 47.1% from three, and 72.7% from the free-throw line. The Big Blues out-rebounded the Bears 39-31 and both teams committed 13 turnovers.

Junior Joshua Windham (pictured) had 22 points (game high), 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist. Senior Avery Holliday had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Freshman Chas Harvey had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Senior Aaron Williams had a productive game with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Junior James Day grabbed 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.
