Bluefield, V.A.— The Bluefield State Volleyball team defeated their cross town rival, Bluefield College, in a thrilling 5 setter (20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 15-12). The victory, gives the Lady Blues an overall record of 20-6 on the season.
Both teams seemed to compete on a level playing field, the Lady Blues combined for 56 kills and 7 serving aces compared to the Rams 50 kills and 6 serving aces.
Sophomore Brittney Deveaux had a superb day for the Lady Blues with 18 kills with 1 error on 24 attempts for a .708 attack percentage. She also had 2 serving aces. Junior Tyann Thomas had 11 kills and 2 digs. Sophomore Brittany Bonamy had 9 kills with 2 errors on 16 attempts for a .438 attack percentage. She also had 8 digs and 1 serving ace. Senior Sashane Watson had 9 kills and Junior Tanasia Blake had 7 kills.
Junior Leandrea Armbrister (pictured) had a great day as well with 39 set assists, 2 kills, and 2 serving aces. Junior Thais Nogueira-Nunes had the team high, 10 digs, and 1 serving ace on 13 attempts.
The Lady Blues next matches will be on Saturday, Nov. 14th, in a Tri-Match against Claflin University at 8:00 a.m. and Georgia Regents University-Augusta at 10:00 a.m. in Orangeburg, SC.
