Box Score Bluefield, W.Va.— The Bluefield State Volleyball team defeated the Salem College Spirits in three straight sets: 25-11, 25-19, 25-16 tonight in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium.

The Lady Blues were coming off a big 3-1 win last Friday against Ohio Valley University and with this win brings their record to 7-4 on the season and currently the Lady Blues are on a 3-game winning streak.
The Lady Blues started out a little slow, but the offense got going and won the first set easily 25-11. In the second set, the Lady Blues started out slow again and were down early 0-3, but came right back to tie it 3-3. The scoring went back and forth, but the Lady Blues pulled off the second set win 25-19.
In the third and final set, the Lady Blues had a couple player changes, Coach Poitier wanted to let some of his other players get more playing time. It was a tough third set, the Lady Blues had a set point, but the Spirits pulled off 3 straight points to inch their way closer. The set ended on a serving error by the Spirits, Lady Blues win 25-16.
The big difference in the game were attacks and serving. The Lady Blues had 36 kills compared to their opponents' 16. They also had 13 serving aces compared to the Spirits' 1.
Sophomore Brittney Deveaux (pictured) had a great game offensively with 14 kills, a game high. She also added in two serving aces, 1 dig, and 1 block assist. Junior Tanasia Blake also had a good night with 8 kills and 1 dig.
Sophomore Alee Quint had 21 set assists, 5 digs, and 2 serving aces. Junior Thais Nogueira-Nunes and Sophomore Jessie Rehwald both led the team in digs with 7 a piece.
The Lady Blues will see the court again on Saturday, Oct. 3rd in a Tri-Match against Salem International University at 12:00 p.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan at 3:00 p.m. Matches will be held at Salem International University in Salem, W.Va.
