Box Score Bluefield, WV- The Lady Blues came up short tonight for a second time to Concord University Mountain Lions. Concord took both the home and away games from BSC, this time by a score of 77-52.
This game was close throughout as both teams struggled to find their rhythm at the start. But ultimately it was the lack of depth that really hurt the Lady Blues as Concord was able to go to its bench late in each half and get valuable minutes from their reserves.
The 1st quarter was a close one as both teams were trying to find their offensive stride. Both teams traded baskets as neither team lead by more than 3. The Lady Blues only had two players to tally points in that quarter and that was really all they needed. Tanasia Blake (01) and Tierra Richberg (21) combined for 16 points and helped BSC to a 1 point lead going into the 1st intermission. These two ladies lead the offense for the night as they took a combined 33 of the 61 total shots for the game.
The 2nd quarter played a different tune for the Blues as they saw their lead, which grew to 3 around the 8:00 minute mark, disappear as the Mountain Lion offense really got going. Concord started making outside shots from beyond the arc which helped to build on their lead. Marta Moix (12) of Concord put an exclamation point on the period by converting from downtown as time expired. That shot make it 44-28 as the teams went into their locker rooms.
The 3rd quarter was not much different from the 2nd for the Blues. BSC struggled shooting as they were only able to tally 10 points for the quarter. But once again Tanaisia and Tierra were solid combining for 6 of those 10 points.
The 4th quarter was better by the Lady Blues as they were able to get 14 to round out the game. But with the lack of depth the Lady Blues have had all season they could not overcome their deficit and fell 77-52.
It was not a particularly great shooting night for either team. The Lady Blues shot 39% from the field, 22% from beyond the arc and 25% from the charity stripe. The Mountain Lions held edges in both field goal percentage and 3 point shooting percentage, shooting 41% and 28% respectively.
Junior guard Tierra Richberg and junior forward Tanasia Blake were the stars for the Lady Blues. Tierra had 21 points in this game, which was the team high. Tanasia was not far behind in the scoring category scoring 16. Tanasia was also strong on the defensive end, having 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.
