Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Pikeville, KY- The Big Blues Women's Basketball team official opened up their season this weekend by playing in a tournament hosted by the University of Pikeville. BSC did not play UPike as these two teams clash later in the season but on Friday the ladies played Ohio Christian and Saturday played Campbellsville. Turnovers are the story of the weekend as Bluefield State lost 67-47 to Ohio Christian and 108-41 to Campbellsville.

The Big Blues started off slow against Ohio Christian and really could not recover. In the 1st quarter the ladies only scored 8 points while allowing 14. In the second it was much more of the same except Ohio Christian was able to go on a late run and score 26 and took a 40-16 lead at the half. The were unable to get to the free throw line in the first half and had multiple turnovers which helped Ohio Christian build this lead. But in the second half things turned around for the Big Blues and they were able to mount a comeback, especially in the 4th quarter. Tanasia Blake who led all Big Blues with 11 points and 7 rebounds led the comeback attempt. Chloe Layne was also able to hit three 3's in the 4th quarter (for her 9 points on the night) to give the Big Blues 21 points in the 4th quarter. But the 31 total turnovers for the ladies were too much and the team fell 67-47 to Ohio Christian.

Day two against Campbellsville saw them dominate BSC inside. For the game Cambellsville had 40 points in the paint and 51 total rebounds. That coupled with 33 Big Blue turnovers helped Campbellsville win 108-41. Lyndsay Hatfield led the Big Blues with 10 total points. Six of those points came from 3's in which Lyndsay hit early in the game.  LJ Doughty and Tanasia Blake followed Hatfield's 10 points with 8 a piece.

The Big Blues turn around and play local rival Concord on November 15th at 6:00 pm in their first official home game of the season. The next day the ladies play another rivalry game against Bluefield College on the road at 5:30 pm.
