Bluefield, VA- The men's tennis team was back in action today as they played host to Davis & Elkins. This match was rescheduled from early March when we had some bad weather. The Big Blues really took it to the Senators winning 8-1 in a match, which got to see the entire team play.
On the doubles side, partners Jacob Carey and Aziz Yuldashev and Alex Rudenco and Guillermo Lopez both took care of business winning 8-1 and 8-2. Anthony Braem and Nacho Pulido had a more difficult match but pulled out an 8-6 victory giving the Big Blues a 3-0 overall lead heading into singles play.
Carey and Braem got to rest for their singles matches which allowed Lorenzo Panariti and Lopez to get some playing time against quality opponents. Panariti won his match 6-3, 6-2 and Lopez won his 6-2, 6-3. The toughest match all day came on the singles 1 court when Alex Rudenco played Jake Clifton of D&E. Clifton got the better of Rudenco forcing a super tie breaker 3rd set, with Clifton winning that one 10-5. But being at #1 singles for the first time this season was excellent practice for Rudenco as they play some tough opponents on the road this weekend.
The men will be traveling to Florence, SC to take on the Coker Cobras on Friday and the Francis Marion Patriots on Saturday. Check back on our website for updates on these matches.
