Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues come away with another dominating performance over a regional opponent, this time defeating West Virginia Wesleyan by a final score of 8-1.
Bluefield State saw its number 1 & 2 doubles take wins to set an early tone for the match. Once the singles started it was smooth sailing for the Big Blues as everyone won their matches. Jacob Carey got back on the right track after facing a tough Tusculum opponent on Sunday. But today Carey looked very sharp, winning 6-0, 6-2. Platon Gud overcame a slow start to eventually take care of his WV Wesleyan opponent. Gud dropped the first set 6-3 but that lit a fire under him as he dominated the next 2 sets winning 6-2 & 6-1 to gain another point for the Big Blues.
Bluefield State's schedule has been changed recently due to weather in the area and their match against Bluefield College has been cancelled. That means their last match of the regular season will be this Friday vs Shaw at the City Courts. This match will be Senior Day and Jacob Carey and Aziz Yuldashev will be honored in their final home match of the season. Competition is slated to start at 12:00 pm.
