East Stroudsburg, PA- The Big Blues opened up their season in a 4 game tournament hosted by East Stroudsburg University. The Ladies went 1-3 over the weekend picking up their lone win against Lincoln (PA). They came up short against Caldwell, East Stroudsburg and Pace.

Bluefield State started the tournament against Caldwell and unfortunately did not get off to a very good start to the tournament. In the 3 sets, the Ladies' committed 22 attack errors, 6 service errors, 9 return errors and 3 blocking errors, which ultimately lead to their downfall. But when these errors started getting cleaned up, the Big Blues looked like they were in their mid-season form. Brittney Deveaux had a strong performance securing 5 kills, and 2 blocks. On the defensive side, Jessie Rehwald was very impressive, leading the team in digs with 13. The final scores for the match were 18-25, 18-25 and 17-25.

Game 2 was against tournament favorites and hosts East Stroudsburg. While BSC's attack errors were still on the high side at 28, the team had a real solid performance, winning set 2 by 5. Brittany Bonamy led the team in kills with 9. LeAndrea Armbrister was also a main part of the offense in this match, especially set 2 as her sets led to 23 assists throughout the match. The match ended in 4 sets with the scores 15-25, 25-20, 19-25 & 12-25.

After the 2 games on Friday, the Big Blues were ready for their 1st match on Saturday vs. Lincoln (PA). Kills for the match came in plenty, as the team had 43 during the 3 sets. Tyann Thomas came through on the defensive side tallying 14 digs during the 3 sets. This was overall a dominant performance giving Coach Dillion her first win as a Head Coach for Volleyball. The Big Blues swept Lincoln, 25-15, 25-17 & 25-20.

The final game of the weekend matched up Bluefield State against Pace. This was an extremely back and forth affair and almost saw a decisive 5th set for the Big Blues. The Ladies were on a tear defensively with all 6 players recording a dig and 5 of them recording double digit digs. Having this solid of a defensive performance attributed to the win during the 2nd set. They were close to forcing a 5th set losing 23-25. The final scores for the sets were 19-25, 25-18, 10-25 & 23-25.

The Big Blues will look to get back on the court this week in preparation for another 4 game tournament hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, KY next weekend.
