FAIRMONT, West Virginia — The Bluefield State men's basketball team dropped their first regular-season game Saturday evening at the Joe Retton Classic to Salem University in Feaster Center, 84-103.
Senior guard Marquez Cooper led the Big Blue with 26 points. Khamaury McMillan added 15 points and six rebounds, Landry Palata also added 12 points and Ryan Stowers added 11 points.
Hirotaka Ohashi fell short of a double-double with nine points and eight assists.
Bluefield State shot 44.4 percent from the field (32 of 72), while Salem University shot 60.6 percent (40 of 66).
Darius Bell led the Tigers with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
