ELKINS, West Virginia - The Bluefield State men's basketball team remains winless on the road after falling to Davis & Elkins Saturday afternoon in the McDonnell Center, 88-75.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the Big Blue and Senators. At the 13-minute mark, the Big Blue took the lead after a layup from Marquez Cooper, 12-10.Â
Both team teams remained scoreless on a four-minute stretch until Jordan Hinds added to the Big Blue lead with two good free throws.Â
The Big Blue held the lead for the next five minutes. The Senators Sam Rolle put them up with a three-pointer, 21-20.Â
The Senators then scored the next 11 points leaving the Big Blue scoreless. Desmond Freeman knocked down a three with an assist by Hirotaka Ohashi to cut the Senators' lead, 32-23.Â
Jaaden Newell gave the Big Blue the last three points of the quarter but it wasn't enough to take the lead before the half, 34-26.Â
The Big Blue started the second half off strong. At the 16-minute mark, Khamaury McMillan made 1/2 free throws cutting the Senators' lead to three, 41-38.Â
The Senator then went on an eight-point run to put them back up by 11. The Big Blue once again battled back to cut the lead to four, with a fast break and a good layup by Julio Pascual, 54-50.
The Big Blue battle all the way to the end but never could regain a lead against the Senators.Â
Jordan Hinds led the Big Blue with 18 points on 6-13 shooting. Hinds added eight rebounds in 29 minutes.Â
Hirotaka Ohashi followed with 11 points. Ohashi added seven assists in 35 minutes.
Antoine Nunnally added 10 points on 5-7 shooting. Nunnally also added eight rebounds in 25 minutes. Â
Overall, the team shot 28-74 for 37.8%.
They were 6-20 for 30.0% from the three-point line.
And 13-26 for 50.0% from the free-throw line.
They were outrebounded by the Golden Bulls 47-40.
