Box Score BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State Soccer team began the 2021 season with a 4-0 win over Bluefield University Rams on Saturday afternoon at the East River Soccer Complex. Saturday afternoon's win marks the first win for women's soccer in BSC school history.
Shannon Henson opened the scoring for the Big Blue at the 24-minute mark. Capturing the first goal of the season and in school history. Nevaeh Zabel fired one in at the 64-minute mark after a free-kick assist from Rachel Major.
Hometown favorite Taylor Papa got a piece of the action scoring one at the 71-minute mark. Paige O'Toole got her first college career goal by putting one in at the 81-minute mark.
"It was great to get out onto the field today and start our growth as a team. There is still lots of work to be done but it's history in the making for Bluefield State Women's Soccer," said head coach Scott Forster.
Our first game in history, our first ever win, our first ever goal, our first-ever clean sheet, and my first collegiate win as a head coach. These young women fill my heart with pride."
The Big Blue put up 26 shots over the Rams four in Saturday's game. The ladies also had a lot pressure resulting in seven corner kicks. Rams Goal Keeper worked tirelessly to hold the Big Blue to only four goals, picking up more than ten saves.
