BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State women's basketball fell to Emory and Henry College Thursday evening in Ned E. Shott Gymnasium, 77-65.
Alexus Tucker led the Big Blue with 16 points on 6-13 shooting in 32 minutes. Tucker added six rebounds.
Autumn Spangler followed with 13 points on 5-10 shooting. Spangler was 50% from the three-point line.
Londen Coleman also added 13 on 6-15 shooting in 30 minutes. Coleman added seven rebounds.
Azariah Binford added nine assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 26-66 for 39.4%.
They were 12-36 for 33.3% from the three-point line.
And 1-3 for 33.3% from the free-throw line.
The Wasps dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Big Blue, 26-12.
The Big Blue came back to outscore the Wasps in the second quarter, 19-17. However, that wasn't enough to take the lead before the half. The Wasps were up at halftime, 42-31.
The Big Blue gave up 12 points to the Wasps off of turnovers in the first quarter.
The Big Blue was hot off the bench, grabbing 16 of their 31 points from the bench.
The third quarter was another battle to get on top for the Big Blue. The Wasps outscored the Big Blue by one, 15-14.
The Big Blue couldn't close the 10 point gap before the start of the fourth quarter.
Autumn Spangler popped a three with an assist from Azariah Bindford to cut the Wasps lead to 6, 67-61 with 4:42 to go. The Wasps quickly went back up by eight with a foul committed by Spangler to send the Wasps to the line shooting two.
Bindford hit a jump in the paint to cut the Wasps lead once again to six with 3:00 to go, 69-63.
The Big Blue had a hard time keeping the game close in range. Between turnovers and fouls, they couldn't catch a break to gain a lead.
Coleman scored the last two of the game, with a fast break and finished with a layup with 2:00 remaining. The Big Blue caused a Wasps turnover but couldn't get any points out of it.
