SALEM, West Virginia — The Bluefield State women's basketball drop to Salem University Saturday afternoon in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium, 75-73.
Katrina Davis led the Big Blue with a career-high of 20 points on 7-15 shooting in 34 minutes. Davis was 6-12 from the three-point line and added five rebounds.
Autumn Spangler followed with a season-high of 13 points on 6-12 shooting. Spangler added three rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes.
Londen Coleman added 13 points on 5-7 shooting. Coleman added nine rebounds in 27 minutes.
Dani Janutolo also added 10 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes.
Azariah Binford added six assists and six points in 33 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 26-62 for 41.9%.
They were 12-36 for 33.3% from the three-point line.
And 9-11 for 81.8% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue starting lineup caused the Tigers to find most of their points off the bench in the first quarter. Battling back and forth for the lead throughout the quarter the Tigers and the Big Blue were tied up, 21-21.
The Big Blue allowed the Tigers to score 10-second chance points versus their two in the second quarter. As result, the Tigers outscored the Big Blue in the second quarter, 19-17. Leaving the Big Blue down by two at the half, 40-38.
The Big Blue dominated in the paint the second quarter with 16 points.
The Big Blue came back to outscore the Tigers in the third quarter 19-15. Putting them up by two at the end of the third quarter, 57-55.
The Tigers bench controlled the fourth quarter, claiming 15 points off the bench to give the Tigers the game by two, 75-73.
