SALEM, West Virginia - The Bluefield State men's basketball fell to Salem University Saturday afternoon in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium, 101-89.
Jordan Hinds led the Big Blue with 24 points on 10-15 shooting. Hinds added five rebounds in 26 minutes.Â
Marquez Cooper followed with 19 points on 7-15 shooting and four rebounds in 37 minutes.Â
Ryan Stowers added 12 points on 6-10 shooting in 28 minutes.Â
Landry Palata added 11 points on 4-6 shooting. Palata also added three rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes. Â
Overall, the team shot 37-70 for 52.9%.
They were 7-18 for 38.9% from the three-point line.
And 8-16 for 50.0% from the free-throw line.
They outrebounded the Tigers 31-28.
The Big Blue dominated off the bench in the first quarter with 24 bench poinst.Â
The Big Blue also dominated in the paint with 24 points. The Tigers took the lead early in the first quarter, and the Big Blue could never take it back.
Tigers were up at the half 57-48.
The Big Blue came out to start the second half in hopes of cutting down the Tiger's lead. Kesean Robinson popped a three at the 19-minute mark and the Big Blue trailed by six, 57-51.
The Tigers Tobias Howard answered with his own three to put the Tigers back up by nine, 60-51.
With 6:57 left in the game, Ryan Stowers had a fast break and finished with a layup to cut the Tiger's lead by five.Â
Both teams went scoreless for about two minutes. The Tigers Stan Smith broke the scoreless streak with a three, putting the Tigers back up by eight.Â
Jordan Hinds answered with a jumper to again cut the Tigers lead to six. The Tigers quickly added to their lead with a jumper by Fonz Hale, 86-78.Â
The Big Blue got down by as much as 15 at the:30 mark. Hinds scored the last three points of the game giving the Tigers a victory by 12 points.Â
