BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield State men's basketball captured their second win of the season in a rematch against King University Tuesday night in Ned E. Shott Gymnasium, 86-74.
The Big Blue will travel to Washington Adventist. Jan. 28. Tipoff is set at 2 p.m.
Early on the Big Blue had the Tornado (8-7) on their heels. This left Tornado scoreless for the first two minutes of the game, 7-0. Bluefield State was scoring, forcing turnovers, and taking advantage of defense leading to offense.
From there, the Big Blue kept their lead throughout the first half, 52-34, at halftime.
In the second half, the Big Blue continued to pull away from the Tornado by maintaining a ten-point plus lead most of the second half. A foul by Jordan Hinds and one out of two good free throws by J'son Brooks closed the Big Blue lead to nine, 70-61.
Off the rebound by Ryan Stowers with 8:25 left, Stowers put it right back up to put the Big Blue back up by 10.
The Big Blue never surrendered their lead and never dropped their lead below 10 points the rest of the game.
Marquez Cooper led with a double-double of 17 points on 8-14 shooting 26 minutes. He also had three steals and two assists.
Jordan Hinds had 15 points on 5-11 shooting and five rebounds in 32 minutes.
Kesean Robinson added 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 31 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 32-76 for 42.1%.
They were 3-16 for 18.8% from the three-point line.
The team was also 19 of 40 on free throws.
The Big Bue scored 42 points off of turnovers.
They outrebounded the Tornado 48-47.
