TAKOMA PARK, Maryland — The Bluefield State women's basketball captured their first regular season win against Washington Adventist Friday afternoon in the Pitt, 74-68.
Autumn Spangler led the Big Blue with a career high of 24 points on 9-21 shooting. Spangler added four steals in 40 minutes.
Londen Coleman followed with 22 points on 7-11 shooting. Coleman added eight rebounds in 28 minutes.
Dani Janutolo added 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and four assists in 37 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 25-66 for 37.9%.
They were 9-33 for 23.7% from the three-point line.
And 15-23 for 65.2% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue battled for the lead with the Shock throughout most of the first quarter. Londen Coleman tied it up with about a minute left, 17-17. Autumn Spangler drained a three from the top of the key giving the Big Blue the lead, 20-17. The Big Blue defense worked tirelessly, grabbing 13 points off of turnovers in the first quarter.
At the start of the second half, the Big Blue continued to add to their lead. The Shock defense was able to keep the lead by the Big Blue below ten the entire second quarter. The Big Blue went into halftime up by three, 33-30. The Big Blue bench saw some production in the second quarter as they added nine points off the bench.
The Big Blue once again saw some points from forced turnovers in the third quarter. Allowing them to keep their lead heading into the fourth quarter, 55-47.
The Big Blue got a little outworked in the paint in the fourth quarter, however that didn't stop them from finishing strongly to seal the win on the road.
