Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball fell to University of Charleston 80-60 on Tuesday at Ned E. Shott Gymnasium.
Londen Coleman led the Big Blue in scoring with 14 points followed by Rori Cox with nine points and three rebounds.
UC opened up the first quarter with a 9-0 scoring run before the Big Blue would get on the board by a three from Essence Cowan. The Golden Eagles would outscore the Big Blue 28-9 in the first quarter.
The Big would score seven consecutive points, a three from Katrina Davis and two layups from Coleman, to pull within 13 with six minutes left in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles closed out the first half with a jumper at the buzzer to go into the half with the 21-point advantage over the Big Blue.
The third quarter consisted of back-and-forth buckets, to go into the final quarter with the Golden Eagles on top 64-45.
The Big Blue cut the lead to 12 after a jumper from Coleman, a fastbreak layup by Eriel West and a three from Aerihna Afoa, but the Golden Eagle offense outscored the Big Blue 16-8 in the remaining minutes to take the 80-60 victory over the Big Blue.
