CARY, North Carolina - The Bluefield State baseball team swept a two-game series against Post University Sunday afternoon, 22-10.
Game 1:
Post University struck first with an RBI double that brought in Brycin Hernandez in the bottom of the first. They added two more runs on another rbi double by Nate Miller and a rbi single by Robert Olah.
The Big Blue would score one in the top of the second after an RBI single by
Brayden Merrick making it a 3-1 game. Post added on another run on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning giving them a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth.
In the fifth inning, the Eagles allowed a passed ball which Jordan Varela scored on making it a 4-2 game. The Big Blue took advantage of a throwing error by the pitcher which allowed three runs to score, giving Bluefield a 5-4 lead.
The Eagles took the lead in the seventh after an RBI double by Jimmy Brennan and Nate Miller making it a 7-5 game. In the top of the ninth inning, the Big Blue took the lead after an RBI double by
Ethan Wilkins, an RBI single by Merrick, and an Eagles fielding error which made the game 8-7.
The Big Blue would keep the Eagles scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.
Game 2:
In the top of the first inning, the Eagles scored three runs on a two-run home run by Nate Miller and a solo shot by Robert Olah. In the bottom of the first half the Big Blue had a run of their own on an RBI single by
Ethan Wilkins.
The Eagles would take a 7-1 lead in the top of the third inning after two RBI singles by Olah and Jimmy Brennan and a two-RBI double by Harry Allegra. The Big Blue responded with four runs of their own two RBI singles by Varela and Wilkins.
They added two more runs after a fielding error by the Eagles shortstop, making it a 7-5 game. In the bottom of the fourth, Varela hit another RBI single to tie the game.
Post tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning on a sac bunt, a single, and a passed ball giving them a 10-6 lead. Bluefield State took a 12-10 lead in the bottom of the fifth after an inside-the-park home run by Varela which scored four runs on the play, an RBI single by both
Brayden Merrick and
Garret Hladilek.
In the sixth inning,
Taylor Tibbs hit an RBI double. Bringing in
Blake Little making it a 13-10 game. The Big Blue went into attack mode in the ninth inning. Scoring nine runs, which gave them a 22-10 win over the Eagles.

The Big Blue will host Frostburg University in a three game series. Feb. 19 in Beckley, West Virginia at Epling Stadium. First pitch is set at noon.
