BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State women's basketball team dropped to Concord University in a Monday night showdown in Ned E. Shott Gym.
Londen Coleman led the Big Blue coming bench with 22 points on 8-18 shooting in 31 minutes.
Azariah Binford followed with 18 points on 7-13 shooting. Binford added seven assists in 39 minutes.
Autumn Spangler added 13 points and four rebounds.
Overall, the team shot 25-58 for 43.1%.
They were 8-24 for 33.3% from the three-point line.
And 10-17 for 58.8% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue came out strong against the Mountain Lions. THE Mountain Lions took the lead at the 7-minute mark with a jumper by Maggie Guynn, 5-3.
The Big Bleu quickly tied it back up with a fast-break layup by Alexus Tucker. The Mountain Lions took back the lead with a layup in the paint by Riley Fitzwater, with 5:54 remaining.
The Big Blue kept the Mountain Lions in close range by keeping their lead under 10 at the end of the first quarter, 22-13.
The Big Blue started to close the gap in the second quarter. Eventually, taking the lead at the 4-minute mark with a three-pointer at the top of the key by Autumn Spangler, 26-25.
The Mountain Lion quickly went back up by one with a layup in the paint by Fitzwater.
Londen Coleman tied it up right before the half with a pull-up jumper in the paint, 30-30.
The Big Blue were outscored by the Mountain Lions, 25-14 in the third quarter. The Big Blue tried to fight back in the fourth, outscoring the Mountain Lions 24-19. It just wasn't enough to collect the win at the end.
