ATHENS, West Virginia - The Bluefield State Baseball team took game one out of a two-game series against Concord University Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field, 4-3.
The Big Blue took an early lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by
Roman Moore that brought in Braden Merrick, giving them a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Ty Sizemore would hit a three-run home run for the Big Blue, extending their lead by three, 4-0. The Mountain Lions were held scoreless by the Big Blue until the bottom of the sixth inning when Josh Adkins hit a single to center field, bringing in Kyle Keenan to put them on the board, 4-1.
Concord would add another run in the inning after an RBI single that brought in Joey Duffer, making it a 4-2 game. In the bottom of the ninth, Bluefield state would give up another run after a two-out RBI single by Michael Dupont bringing in Zack Saryeldin making it a 4-3 ball game.
The Big Blue held on for their first win over the Mountian Lions and almost a decade.
