BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State women's basketball team dropped a tough one at home to West Virginia University Tech, 68-61.
Londen Coleman led the Big Blue off the bench with 15 points on 4-12 shooting. Coleman added five rebounds in 33 minutes.
Alexus Tucker also led with 15 points on 5-9 shooting in 28 minutes.
Autumn Spangler followed with 11 points on 3-12 shooting in 40 minutes.
Dani Janutolo added 11 points on a 3-6 shooting. Janutolo went 4-4 from the free-throw line.
Overall, the team shot 19-59 for 32.2%.
They were 7-27 for 25.9% from the three-point line.
And 16-24 for 66.7% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue got behind the Golden Bears early in the first quarter. Alyssa Taylor had a fast break and a layup putting the Golden Bears up by 10 with 3:14 in the quarter. The Big Blue struggled to cut the lead. the Golden Bulls ended the quarter up by 13, 24-11.
Dani Janutolo started the second quarter with a three from the top of the key with an assist from Alexus Tucker, 24-10. The Big Blue managed to cut the Golden Bears lead to seven at the three-minute, 33-26.
The Golden Bears quickly went back up by 10 with a three-pointer by Brittney Justice. Tucker popped a three right before the half to keep the Golden Bears lead within 10, 38-28.
The Big Blue never saw a lead in the third quarter. Azariah Binford cut the lead under 10 by making 1/2 free-throws.
The Golden Bears extended their lead quickly with a jumper from Taylor, 40-29. The Golden Bears held a 10 point plus lead the rest of the third quarter.
With:05 left in the third quarter Autumn Spangler knocked down a three from the corner, cutting the Golden Bears lead to eight, 49-41.
Londen Coleman drew the foul and went to the line for two at the eight-minute mark in the fourth quarter. Coleman made both and cut the Golden Bears lead to eight.
Tucker rebounded a missed jumper by the Golden Bears and got down to the other end, and drained the three, 51-46.
Coleman popped a jumper with:06 left getting the last bucket of the night. It wasn't enough to get the win for the Big Blue at the end.
