Baseball Splits Two Game Series Against Carolina University

Mocksville, North Carolina -- The Bluefield State Baseball team split a two-game series Thursday afternoon against Carolina University. 

Bluefield State Baseball claimed a 17-4 victory on Thursday, despite a big push by the Bruins in the fifth inning. The Bruins had their run with a single by Bryan Deegan and a home run by Josh Kent.

The Big Blue scored five runs in the sixth inning with Garrett Hladilek, Jarred Simpson, and Noah Wooten each having RBIs in the frame.

Jordan Livingston took the win for the Big Blue. The righty went six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out eight. Cy Underwood threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Nate Williams took the loss for Carolina University Bruins. Williams allowed six hits and five runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one.

The Big Blue launched six home runs on the day. Jordan Varela-Payne had a dinger in the fourth inning. Ty Sizemore had a long ball in the fourth inning. CJ Cooper had a four-bagger in the fourth and fifth inning. 

Brantley Durham put one out in the fifth inning. Cole Cote had a homer in the third inning.

The Big Blue racked up 19 hits on the day. Cooper, Hladilek, Taylor Tibbs, Simpson, Durham, Sizemore, and Varela-Payne each collected multiple hits for the Big Blue.

The Big Blue will travel to Salem for a single nine-inning game. Mar. 15. The First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
