Baseball Sweeps Alice Lloyd In Two Game Series

PIPPA PASSES, Kentucky -- The Bluefield State baseball team went 2-0 against Alice Llyod Monday afternoon. 

Game 1:
The Big Blue got on the board first after an RBI single by Cole Cote scoring Varela-Payne. In the bottom of the first, the Eagles answered back with three runs of their own on an RBI single that brought in Cannon Ferrell, an RBI ground out that brought in Ethan Mullins, and on an error by the Big Blue, 3-1. 
In the top of the second Taylor Tibbs had an RBI double that brought in Garret Hladlik. A batter later Roman Moore would add to the score after aN RBI single bringing in Tibbs from second. 
Varela-Payne also had an RBI in the inning after he tripled to right field bringing Moore into the home plate. Brayden Merrick would bring in Varela-Payne after he grounded out to the shortstop, 5-3. 
The Eagles would tie the game in the bottom of the inning after an RBI single by Chase Madden and a sac fly by Mullins. In the top of the third Hladilek hit a home run to left field breaking the tie game. 
Varela-Payne had another RBI triple that brought in Cj Cooper putting the  Big Blue on top 7-5. In the top of the fourth, Tibbs had a two-RBI single that brought in Jarred Simpson and Hladilek to extend their lead over the Eagles. Merrick homered in the top of the fifth to add to the Big Blue lead. The Big Blue defense held the Eagles scoreless the remainder of the game.

Game 2:
Jordan Varela-Payne homered to lead off game number two. In the top of the third Varela-Payne had an RBI single that brought in CJ Cooper. Cole Cote also had an RBI single in the inning which brought in Varela-Payne putting the Big Blue ahead 3-0. 
In the top of the fourth, Varela-Payne had another RBI on a sac fly to center field bringing in Taylor Tibbs would score on and extend the Big Blue lead, to 4-0. 
In the top of the fifth, the Big Blue would hit another home run on the day, this time by Ty Sizemore scoring the final run of the day. The pitching and defense for the Big Blue kept the eagles scoreless the entire game.

The Big Blue will host Lenoir Ryhne Monday, April 4. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
