RICHMOND, Virginia -- The Bluefield State softball team fell to Virginia State University in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at VSU Softball Field.
Game 1:
The Big Blue took the lead early in the top of the first. With the bases loaded
Maurincia Demmings singled to left field for an RBI bringing in
Calla Cooksey.Â
Hannah Fisher grounded out to shortstop for an RBI adding one more to the Big Blue score in the top of the first. The Big Blue defense kept the Trojans scoreless for a total of three innings. Â
Madison Thompson (0-5) took the loss for Bluefield State. She gave up three runs  -- on seven hits in 6.0 inning of work.Â
Nia Hall singled for an RBI bringing in Machen Flood in the bottom of the fourth, 2-1. The Trojans added their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Â
Game 2:Â
The Big Blue closed out Saturday with a 6-2 loss in game 2 of the doubleheader.
The Trojans struck first this time with Alaija Pratt hitting a SAC fly to bring in Hailey Darrington. The Trojans added four in the third. Samantha Cunningham tripled to left field for a three RBI.Â
Julia Jones brought in Cunningham with a single RBI, 5-0. The Trojans would add their final run in the fifth with Darrington hitting a triple to left field for an RBI.Â
The Big Blue added their first and only two in the sixth.
Emma Crawford tripled for two RBI. Bringing in Â
Calla Cooksey and
Kennedy Warbritton.Â
Bluefield State dropped to 0-9 Â with the losses the Trojans improved to 2-2.Â
