CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- The Bluefield State baseball team dropped a three-game series to the University of Charleston Sunday afternoon at Welch Athletic Complex.
Game 1:
The Golden Eagles scored first in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI ground out brought in Jordan Bailey, 1-0. The Big Blue answered with a run of their own in the second inning after
Cole Cote shot one to downtown Charleston, tying it up 1-1.
In the bottom of the second, the Golden Eagles scored five runs on a walk, a three-RBI triple, and a two-RBI single, 6-1. The Big Blue would score four runs in the top third after Cote had another home run bringing in four, 6-5.
In the bottom of the third, the Golden Eagles added two more runs on a sac fly that brought in a run and an RBI single, 8-5. The Big Blue would tie things in the top of the fourth on an RBI walk bringing in
Taylor Tibbs and on a two-RBI single by
Jarred Simpson.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles added four runs after an error by the Big Blue defense, 12-8. Tibbs hit his first home run of the season at the top of the fifth, 12-9.
The Golden Eagles added their final two runs to their lead after an RBI triple by Kyle West and a ground out by Drew Klaserner, 14-9.
Game 2:
The Big Blue got on the board first to start the second after a solo home run by
Brayden Merrick, 1-0. The Golden Eagles scored in the bottom of the third after a throwing error by the Big Blue defense, tying the game at 1-1.
In the top of the fourth
Roman Moore had an RBI double that scored
Taylor Tibbs, 2-1. The Golden Eagles would answer back in the bottom half of the inning after an RBI triple by Clay Hale and an RBI single by Andre Martinez, 3-2.
In the top of the fifth
Cole Cote had an RBI single scoring
Tyler Fenwick to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Eagles would go on to win the game after a walk-off home run by Tyler Dellerman.
Game 3:
The Golden Eagles would keep the Big Blue scoreless to win the game.
In the bottom of the first, the Golden Eagles would score four runs after a two-RBI double by Drew Klaserner and two RBI singles by Giano Zuccaro and Eric Chartier to take a 4-0 lead.
They would add another run in the bottom of the third on a sac fly which brought in Kyle West, 5-0. The Golden Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fourth after an error by the Big Blue giving them a 6-0 lead. Heading into the bottom of the fifth the Golden Eagles added four runs in the inning, 10-0. The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sac fly by Jordan Bailey and an RBI single by Clay Hale, 12-0 game.
