BLUEFIELD -- Bluefield State Baseball dropped to West Virginia State University Thursday afternoon at Bowen Field, 17-9.
The Big Blue got on the board first after a solo home run by
Jordan Varela-Payne. The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the top of the third at 1-1 after an RBI single brought in a run.
In the top of the fourth, the Yellow Jackets added four runs to their lead, 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, Ty Sizemore hit a solo home run.
The Yellow Jackets add 11 runs between the fifth and seventh inning to take a 16-2 lead over the Big Blue. The Big Blue added three runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Varela-Payne and on a two-run home run by
Brayden Merrick, 16-5.
In the eighth, the Big Blue scored four runs on a two-RBI double by
Roman Moore, a fielder's choice, and a walk, 16-9. At the top of the ninth, the Yellow Jackets added their final run after an RBI single by Brett Christian.
