Bridgeport, WV – Bluefield State University women's soccer took down Salem University in their season opener 3-0 at the Bridge Sport Complex.
The Big Blue took an early lead after Isabella Esteves found the back of the net in the first five minutes of the game. The Big Blue would extend the lead 2-0 after Esteves found Bianka Zeitvogel to score the second goal within the first 11 minutes of play. The Tigers would slow the offensive attack of the Big Blue until Lou Periquet would score to take the 3-0 lead into the half.
The Big Blue would face a challenging second half, only having two shots compared to the ten in the first half. Despite not scoring in the second half, the Big Blue would hold strong to come away with the 3-0 victory over the Tigers.
"It's great to come together as a team in our first competitive game of the year. I'm proud of all of the players in our first clean sheet and first win together." said second year Head Coach Scott Forster. "It's great to see the true spirit come out on these types of road trips. Winning away from home is always hard but the team made it fun."
