Winston-Salem, NC – Bluefield State University Volleyball went five sets against Winston-Salem State University, falling 3-2.
The Big Blue took the 4-1 lead early in set one led by two aces from Kateryna Dashevska. WSSU took the lead 11-10 before a kill from Lindsey Neal evened the score. After WSSU took back the lead, the Big Blue went on a 5-0 scoring run to take the 21-19 advantage late in the set. The score would be tied four more times before Bluefield would take set one 26-24.
After falling behind midway through the set, the Big Blue scored five consecutive to take the 17-15 lead: a kill from Allyson Martin, Dashevska, and Neal and two WSSU miscues. WSSU would score the next three to take the one-point lead followed by another kill from Dashevska to tie it up. WSSU would outscore the Big Blue 7-2 to close out the set to take set two 25-20.
Throughout set three, both teams fought to win their second set of the night, tying up the score 11 times. Down one, a kill from Martin sparked a four-point run from the Big Blue to take the 21-18 lead. WSSU went on to score eight of the next 11 points to take set three 26-24.
The Big Blue opened set four outscoring WSSU 17-11. WSSU would pull within four (21-17) late in the set. A kill from Jordan Duncan and Martin, an ace from Veronica Butler and a miscue from WSSU secured set four 25-17 for the Big Blue to force the decided set.
After falling behind by four, a kill from Dashevska and an ace from Aydan Dalak pulled the Big Blue within two. Martin would have back-to-back kills before WSSU would score the final point of the set to take the victory over Bluefield State.
