Ferrum, VA – Bluefield State Volleyball took down Ferrum College 3-1 on Thursday.
The Big Blue took a six-point lead midway through the set after back-to-back kills from Kateryna Dashevska to force a Panther timeout. Out of the timeout, a kill from BriShaela McHaney and Dashevska extended the Big Blue lead 18-10. The Panthers scored three more, but could not overcome to deficit. The final point of the set came from an ace by Veronica Butler to take the 25-13 victory.
The Panthers fought back to take set two 25-23. The Big Blue started set three strong with two ace serves and a kill from Dashevska to take the 3-0 lead. The Panthers tied it up twice (11-11, 14-14) before the Big Blue began to pull away. The Big Blue scored the final three points of the set off a kill from Dashevska, Paige Jutte and Caely Pickerd to take set three 25-20.
The Panthers opened up set four outscoring the Big Blue 9-6. The Big Blue went on to score six consecutive points to take the lead 12-9. This included kills from Dashevska, Jutte and Lindsey Neal. The Panthers attempted a late rally with three in a row, but a final point kill from Dashevska secured the victory for the Big Blue, 25-22.
