Price Elevated to Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Bluefield, WV - Derrick Price began his tenure as Director of Athletics at Bluefield State University in May of 2020. July 2022, Price was elevated to Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. Prior to his promotion to Athletic Director, Price served as Head Men's Basketball coach for Bluefield State. While serving as Athletic Director, Price has overseen the addition of 13 new varsity sports (Football, men's and women's wrestling, acrobatic & tumbling, women's golf, women's bowling, women's soccer, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track & field men's and women's swimming), along with a new weight room, and upgrades to the training facilities for the betterment of BSU's athletes.
 
Price coached the Bluefield State men's basketball team for four seasons before stepping down after the 2020 season to take on his new position.  He first began his coaching journey at Bluefield University as an assistant coach under Richard Morgan, and brought his knowledge and experience to the Bluefield State University family. To add to these accomplishments, Price also served as team caption for two years in which made 1st Team All-Conference during his senior year and led Bluefield University to a Conference championship in 2002. As Assistant Coach at Bluefield University, Price helped the Men's Basketball Team reach the NCCAA National Tournament three times as well as coming in second during the 2013-2014 season.
 
Price is a 2002 graduate of Bluefield College with a degree in Information Technology. He then went on to obtain his Master's in Sports Management from West Virginia University.
 
AD Price hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was born and raised. He graduated from William Penn High School and played on the varsity team.
 
As far as his personal life, Price has two kids (Derrick Price Jr & Aryanna Price) with his wife Jessica Price. He is a very dedicated family man as he also supports his son, Derrick, Jr., with his basketball and football skills while escorting his daughter, Aryanna, to her cheerleading and gymnastic meets.  Price's level of dedication to his family can also be seen in his coaching style.  He treats his players like family by constantly helping them to strive and achieve success on and off the basketball court as well as with academic success.  Price's goals for his players were to have a successful season as well as to ensure that they all graduate and are prepared for the next chapters in their lives.
