Big Blue Fall to Glenville, Take Down Concord in Tri-Match

Athens, WV – Bluefield State University volleyball fell to Glenville State 1-3, but took down Concord University 3-1 on Tuesday.

The Big Blue took set one over Glenville State 25-16, but dropped the next three 23-25,19-25, and 19-25.

The Big Blue were led by Kateryna Dashevska with 34 assists, 19 digs, seven blocks and five ace serves. Allyson Martin led the Big Blue with 16 kills with Jannice Lynch adding 11.

The Mountain Lions took set one 25-17, but the Big Blue bounced back to take the next three to secure the victory.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early lead in the second set, 5-2, but a kill from Dashevska and a block from Imani Stokes and Dashevska brought the Big Blue within one. The Big Blue took their first lead of the set (12-8) after a kill from Martin sparked a five-point run. The final point of the set came from another kill from Martin to take the set 25-17.

After the Big Blue took an early lead in set three, the Mountain Lions scored six in a row to take the lead. After the Big Blue took back the lead, they pulled away with five consecutive points late in the set. A kill and a block from Dashevska and Imani Stokes brought the Big Blue to game point. Karlee Rae Hill secured the set for the Big Blue with a kill.

The Mountain Lions looked like they were going to take set four to force the deciding set, but the Big Blue bounced back from a 23-14 deficit to take the victory. The Big Blue went on a nine-point run to pull within one of the Big Blue. This run included a kill from Lynch, Stokes and Dashevska, two from Martin, and two blocks from Stokes and Dashevska. The Mountain Lions scored one to get to game point, but a kill from Stokes, Martin and a final point kill from Callesta Styles sealed the victory for the Big Blue.

The Big Blue head to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for CIAA Roundup #2 October 14th and 15th. The Big Blue will compete with Fayetteville State, St. Augustine's and Claflin.
