Big Blue Go 2-1 at CIAA Roundup

Elizabeth City, NC – Bluefield State University Volleyball bounced back after a first game loss to Fayetteville State (2-3) to take the win against St. Augustine's (3-2) and Claflin (3-0) at the CIAA roundup over the weekend.

The Big Blue fell to Fayetteville State in game one 2-3 (23-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-17, 3-15). The Big Blue were led by Kateryna Dashevska with 29 assists, eight digs, eight kills, and one block. Jannice Lynch led in kills for the Big Blue with 13. Gabrielle Money had three aces and Imani Stoke had four blocks.

In game two the Big Blue took down St. Augustine's in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-8). After a back and fourth battle, the Big Blue scored the final four points of the set with a kill from Caely Banger, two from Lindsey Neal and an ace from Sydney Hoosier. The Falcons took the second and third set but the Big Blue bounced back to take set four 25-23 and set five 15-8.

The Big Blue took the third game of the round up 3-0 (25-20, 29-27, 25-13) over Claflin University. The Big Blue took the early 8-3 in set one after a kill from Allyson Martin. Claflin answered to take back the lead, but a kill from Neal sparked a six-point run to take the back the lead 18-14. The final point of the set came from a kill by Lynch.

Claflin jumped out to an early 1-10 in set two, but the Big Blue battled back midway through the set to even the score at 15. After Claflin took back the lead, the score was tied five times before the Big Blue scored the final three points to take the 29-27 set win.

After taking the early 18-11 lead, the Big Blue scored six consecutive points to get to match point. After a kill from Claflin broke up the Big Blue scoring, a final point kill from Caely Banger secured the victory for the Big Blue.
