Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University Football fell short against Lincoln (PA) 52-44 on Saturday.
After the Big Blue were forced to punt on their opening drive, the Lions got on the board and then added another to go into the second quarter with the 14-0 lead. The Lions would add two more in the second quarter to take the 24-0 lead over the Big Blue into halftime.
The Big Blue defense stopped the Lions first drive of the second half to give the Big Blue the ball. Isiah Teal found Reggie Redman for the 61-yard touchdown pass to get the Big Blue on the board. After a penalty on the extra points against the Lions, the Big Blue successfully went for two to make the score 24-8. The Lions extended their lead on their next drive 31-8. The Big Blue answered with a 61-yard touchdown pass from Teal to Perry Wilder III to pull closer to the Lions 31-14.
The Big Blue pulled within ten of the Lions after Kelvin Heyward rushed into the endzone and the extra point from Braxton VanScoy. On the kickoff, Big Blue Khyon Smith recovered the on-side kick to give the ball back to the Big Blue. The Big Blue pulled within a field goal after a 41-yard touchdown pass by Teal to Heyward. The Lions quickly answered with three touchdowns to pull away from the Big Blue. Wilder struck again for the Big Blue with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Teal. With two minutes on the clock, the Big Blue would score for the final time of the night with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Teal to Darius Thompson, falling to the Lions 52-44.
Isiah Teal completed 20 of his 41 attempts for the Big Blue, throwing for 442 yards on the night. Perry Wilder III would lead the Big Blue with 119 receiving yards followed by Darius Thompson with 112.
On the defensive side, TJ Mullix led the Big Blue with six tackles and Brett Brantley adding five.
