Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University Volleyball took down Bowie State University 3-1 on Thursday.
The Big Blue jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after a kill from Callesta Styles and Kateryna Dashevska, an error by the Bulldogs and an ace from Allyson Martin. The Big Blue extended their lead 12-5 after a kill from Jannice Lynch sparked a four-point run. A final point kill from Lindsey Neal gave the Big Blue the 25-10 set win.
After a back-and-fourth second set battle, with the score being tied six times, the Bulldogs came out on top with the 25-19 set win over the Big Blue.
The Bulldogs took the early lead in set three, but the Big Blue bounced back to even the score at six. Late in the set, the Big Blue scored five consecutive to pull way from the Bulldogs. The Big Blue scored the last three points of the set to come away with the 25-21 victory.
A kill from Styles led a Big Blue five-point rally to extend their lead 11-5. Later in the set, a kill from BriShaela McHaney extended the Big Blue lead 15-8. Back-to-back kills from Lynch secured the 25-16 set victory for the Big Blue.
Lynch led all players with 13 kills with McHaney adding nine. Dashevska contributed 32 assists and eight digs, and one block on the night.
