Bluefield, WV- Bluefield State University men's basketball used a strong second half to push past Livingstone College 96-93. The Big Blue move to 4-7 (1-1 CIAA) and the Blue Bears move to 2-6 (0-1 CIAA).
The Blue Bears built a five-point lead with 13 minutes left in the half. Three consecutive threes from Clay Baldwin put the Big Blue ahead with the four-point lead. The Blue Bears evened the score at 36 with 3:54 left in the first half. The Blue Bears closed out the half on a 9-2 run to take the 51-46 advantage into the half.
A trip to the line for Nduka Ogwu and J. Caleb Slawinski pulls the Big Blue within one. At the 13-minute mark, Livingstone built their largest lead of the night at 12. The Big Blue battled back to tie it up at 75 with 7 minutes left to play. Later in the half, a layup from Ja'Mere Redus evened the score at 90. After a free throw from the Blue Bears put them ahead by one, back-to-back buckets from Hinds and Bernard and two free throws by Daron Traylor secured the 96-93 victory for the Big Blue.
Jordan Hinds led all scorers with 26 points followed by Jaylen Bernard and Daron Traylor with 14 apiece, Clay Baldwin with 13 and Nduka Ogwu with 12. Ja'Mere Redus came away with 11 assists with J. Caleb Slawinski adding 11 rebounds.
