Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball move to 8-3 (2-2 CIAA) on the year after falling to Fayetteville State 67-49 on Monday. The Broncos move to 9-1 (3-0 CIAA) on the year.
After battling in the first quarter, the Big Blue closed out the quarter with the last seven points to take the 14-7 lead into the second. The Big Blue extended their lead to nine after Alexyss Newman found Shalance Montoya in the paint for a bucket. Later in the quarter, the Broncos would score 16 consecutive points to take the 27-19 lead into the half.
Coming out of the half, the Big Blue battled back to even the score at 29. A layup from Montoya put the Big Blue ahead 31-30 at the 7:05 mark. The Broncos would go on to outscore the Big Blue 19-8 to close out the third quarter. The Big Blue would pull within 11 after a layup from Binford but couldn't overcome the Bronco deficit, falling 67-49.
Alexyss Newman led the Big Blue with Azariah Binford adding eight. Shalance Montoya led the Big Blue with eight rebounds and eight points.
