Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University hosted Frostburg State in their home opening weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The Big Blue fell to FSU 8-2, 14-8 and 13-6.
Game One
Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead over the Big Blue scoring one in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in sixth. Chris Lubchuk moved a runner into scoring position after getting hit by the pitch in the sixth. Dillon Sullivan brought home the first run for the Big Blue with a single. After Frostburg State added a run in the top of the seventh, the Big Blue added another in the seventh but could not add anymore, falling in game one 8-2.
Game Two
Frostburg State added one in the first, but the Big Blue evened the score in the fourth after Cote singled up the middle and later scored on an error. The Bobcats took the six-point lead in the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Jordan Varela-Payne led off the inning with a walk and was later brought in by a double down the left field line from Garret Hladilek. Going into the seventh down 11-2, the Big Blue brought six runs across the plate to pull within three. Sam Walker hit a leadoff double to right field followed by back-to-back walks from Curtis Ball and Korbic Bostic to load the bases. Tahir Meulens brought in the first run of the inning followed by a single from Sebastian Ortega to bring in another. Later in the inning, Hladilek drew the bases load walk to bring in a run followed by a single from Brantley Durham to bring in two and a single to center field by Walker to bring in two. The Bobcats added one in eighth and two in the ninth to take the 14-8 victory over the Big Blue.
Game Three
Going into the third down by five, Meulens, Varela-Payne and Cote each added a single to bring in one. The Bobcats added two in the fourth and six in the sixth to take the 13-1 lead over the Big Blue. Tyson Mickie led off the sixth with a triple and was later brought off of a single from Ty Sizemore. Lubchuk doubled to left center in the bottom of the second to bring in two runs followed by another RBI for Sizemore. Later in the inning, Brayden Merrick reached on an error by the third baseman to bring in the Big Blue final run of the game, falling to Frostburg State 13-6.
