Big Blue Fall to Emory & Henry in Non-Conference Battle

 Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University Football fell in a non-conference matchup against Emory & Henry College 37-14 on Saturday.

Emory & Henry started out strong, with a 71-yard touchdown pass to get on the board early. After the Big Blue were forced to punt on their first drive of the day, the Wasps added another to extend their lead 14-0. The Wasps tacked on a 36-yard field goal to go into the second quarter with the 17-0 lead over the Big Blue.

The Wasps opening drive of the second quarter extended their lead with a 39-yard field goal, 20-0. The Big Blue found their footing midway through the quarter after Jai'que Hart connected with Perry Wilder III for a 17-yard touchdown pass. The successful extra point from Braxton VanScoy brought the score to 20-7. The Big Blue added another after Hart found Khyon Smith for the 35-yard touchdown and the good extra point from VanScoy to pull the Big Blue closer, 20-14. On the next play, the Wasps added a field goal to go into the half with the 23-14

The Wasps capitalized on a blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown to push their lead 30-14. The Wasps sealed the 37-14 win after adding another touchdown in the final minute.

Hart threw for 226 yards on the night, going 19-47. Wilder led the receivers with six receptions for 30 yards and Smith with four catches for 51 yards.

On the defensive side, TJ Gunter and Jaylyn Norris had eight stops apiece with Brett Brantley adding seven of his own.

The Big Blue will begin their conference play on the road against Johnson C. Smith University with kickoff at 6 p.m.
