Charlotte, NC – Bluefield State University women's basketball fell short against Johnson C. Smith, 54-51. The Big Blue move to 9-5 (3-3 CIAA) with the Golden Bulls moving to 5-7 (2-3 CIAA) on the year.
The Big Blue struck first with a three and a putback layup from Katrina Davis. After Sincere Roberts found Davis for the wing three, the Big Blue built a lead of 11 at the 3:27 mark. The Golden Bulls cut the Big Blue lead to eight going into the second quarter. Jayla Sample completed the three-point play to open the second to extend the Big Blue lead 20-9. The Golden Bulls cut the Big Blue lead to two going into the half.
The Golden Bulls scored the first bucket coming out of the half to even the score at 25. After the lead changed seven times throughout the third quarter, a layup from Shalance Montoya and a free throw from Sample gave the Big Blue the 39-36 lead going into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the score was tied up at 43, 45, 47, and 49 before the Golden Bulls would outscore the Big Blue 5-2 in the final two minutes to take down the Big Blue 54-51.
Jayla Sample comes away with 14 points with Katrina Davis adding 12. Alexyss Newman added eight rebounds and five points.
