Bluefield, VA – Bluefield State University men's golf had a strong showing at the first Bluefield State Men's Intercollegiate at Fincastle with the team claiming first place and freshman Will Hixon earning individual first place.
"I just want to thank Fincastle for the opportunity to host our first Bluefield State Intercollegiate," said Head Coach Samuel Berry. "I'm very proud of our performance this week to complete the sweep in winning both the team and individual medalists. Freshman William Hixon held his nerve in a three-hole sudden death playoff, birding the par 5 11th hole to get the job done."
Led by Will Hixon, who finished first individually after a three-hole sudden death playoff, with a score of 143 (+3). Hixon's had a solid 70 in the first round followed by a 73 in the second.
Also finishing top five was Eman Lim and Joseph Emery, both tying for third place with a total score of 144 (+4). Lim opened the tournament with an impressive 68, the lowest score by any Bluefield State golfer in the first round, while Emery posted a 71. Tanner Dorsey rounded out the scoring for the Big Blue, tying for 10th place at +8 (148), scoring 74 both rounds.
Bluefield State's B team finished seventh on the day with Alexander Hambleton leading the way with a 12th place finish (149 (+9). Matias Brianso and Alvaro Abad Morata finished with scores of 158 and 159 and Jack Rust finishing with a 160 (+20), placing 38th overall.
Playing individually, Jackson Harless tied for 24th with a score of 155 (+15), Daniel Jones tied for 43rd with a 164 (+24) with Camden Deeb rounding out the individual competitors finishing 60th with a total score of 177 (+37).
