Raleigh, NC - Bluefield State University football came up short in a 35-17 road loss to Shaw University on Saturday at Durham County Memorial Stadium. The Big Blue dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Big Blue started strong, with quarterback Christian Solino leading an efficient opening drive. Solino connected with Trey Lyles on a 13-yard touchdown pass, giving the Big Blue an early 7-0 lead. The drive covered 53 yards in just 7 plays.
Shaw answered immediately, returning the kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. After adding a 74-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter, Shaw took a 13-7 lead. A 26-yard field goal by Danny Dales, closed the gap, 13-10.
The second quarter saw Shaw extend their lead to 28-10 as they continued to capitalize their rushing game, finishing the day with 272 rushing yards.
In the fourth quarter, Bluefield State showed resilience. Solino threw his second touchdown of the game, a 4-yard pass to Jaden Allen, capping a 12-play, 83-yard drive, finishing the day with 311 passing yards.
Lyles led in receiving with 7 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown, while Solino completed 31 of 49 passes with 2 touchdowns.
