Bluefield, VA – Bluefield State University men's basketball claimed victory over Bluefield University 119-78. The Big Blue move to 4-1 on the year.
The Big Blue came to life early with back-to-back layups from Jordan Hinds and Shainen Carter followed by back-to-back dunks from Hinds and Carter. The Rams got on the board after a trip to the line but the Big Blue went back to work, building a lead of 20 midway through the half. A three by Romeo Aquino with 3:12 left in the first extended the Big Blue lead to 27. The Rams scored the next eight points, but a layup from Darius Boben gave the Big Blue the 51-30 going into the half.
A layup by Aquino gave the Big Blue their largest lead of the night at 53 with 7:22 left to play. Later in the half, a layup and dunk from Kemar Benn pushed the Big Blue lead back to 50+. The Rams cut the Big Blue lead to 41, but a steal from O'Montae Daniels who found Ernest Johnson II for the layup broke up the Rams run. Travon Cooper II scored the final points of the night after a trip to the line to the secure the 119-78 victory over Bluefield University.
Larry Howell led the Big Blue with 19 points followed by Aquino and Carter with 18, Boben with 14, Cooper with 13 and Hinds with 12. Rell Williams earned the double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
