Bowie, MD – Bluefield State University volleyball fell to Shaw University, 3-1. in the Semifinal round of the CIAA Championships in Bowie, Maryland on Saturday.
After dropping the first two sets 13-25 and 19-25, the Big Blue took set three from the Bears 26-24. Down 11-9, a kill from CIAA Offensive Player of the year Jannice Lynch sparked an eight-point run for the Big Blue to take the 17-11 lead. After the Bears scored one, a kill by Callesta Styles, an error by the Bears and two service aces from Lynch extended the Big Blue lead 21-12. The Bears battled back to take the 24-23 lead, but a kill from Fesili Masaniai, a kill from Imani Stokes and an error by the Bears secured the set three victory for the Big Blue. The Big Blue scored first in set three, but the Bears offense went on multiple runs throughout the set to claim the 25-13 victory over the Big Blue.
Lynch led the Big Blue with 15 kills and three ace serves. Stokes added eight kills and three blocks. Freshman Gabby Hale had 33 assists on the day with Sydney Hoosier adding 18 digs.
The Big Blue finish the year with an overall record of 16-18 and a conference record of 11-4.
