Emory, VA - Caitlynn Ash and Suravieve Robertson won multiple matches to lead the women's wrestling team at the Wasp Open hosted by Emory & Henry.

Ash powered her way to the semi-finals on the strength of a pair of wins. In the first round, she used a counter throw and a turn from the top position to win a decision over her opponent from Emmanuel. In the second round, she broke open a tied match with a sweep single that transitioned into a leg lace to finish the match by technical fall, winning by a score of 12-2.

Robertson led the team with three wins on the day. She opened her strong performance with a body lock and threw for a pin in under a minute. After dropping her next bout to the eventual champion, "Vivi" rebounded, converting an arm-drag single leg into a cradle for another quick fall. In her final match, she battled back and forth with her opponent until she was able to get on a roll and defeat her opponent from Greensboro by technical fall.

Freshman Rylei Belcher scored her first two wins of the season as well. A strong collegiate style wrestler as a West Virginia high schooler, the transition to freestyle at the college level has taken some time. After dropping her first-round match Friday, Belcher was able to score a pair of technical fall wins, displaying new skills in the top par terre position. In those bouts she showed aggressiveness and tenacity in her pursuit of the leg lace, and when she secured them she rolled her way to match ending point totals.

The Big Blue women's wrestlers will return to action in early January at King University.
