Athens, WV – Bluefield State University baseball was taken down by Concord 14-12 on Sunday.
The Big Blue quickly got on the board after a lead-off single by Tahraun Hammond, a hit-by a pitch for Peyton Lewis, and a double by Tahir Meulens to bring in the first run. Dillon Sullivan was hit by the pitch to load the bases, and Chris Larkin doubled down the left-field line to bring in two runs for the Big Blue. Later, a sacrifice fly from Korbin Bostic brought in the fourth run of the inning for the Big Blue.
The Mountain Lions tacked on one in the bottom of the inning. Another double from Meulens brought one across the plate in the second inning, but the Mountain Lions took the lead in the bottom of the inning after scoring seven. The Big Blue tied it up in the seventh, 9-9. Larkin doubled to left center followed by a single from Garrett Hladilek to bring Larkin home. Bostic doubled down the line to bring in Hladilek to tie it up.
In the top of the eighth, Jean Carlos Diaz doubled down the left field line followed by a walk from Hammond to put runners at first and second. A bunt from Lewis moved the runners into scoring position, and Meulens singled to left field to bring in Diaz to take the one-run lead. Sullivan doubled to left field to extend the Big Blue lead 12-9. The Mountain Lions added five runs on four hits to take back the lead 14-12. The Big Blue had one hit in the ninth but couldn't bring any across the plate, falling 14-12 to the Mountain Lions.
