Spartanburg, SC – Bluefield State University softball secured the 10-2 victory over Clark Atlanta in Day One of the CIAA/SIAC Classic.

In the second, Emma Crawford singled to left center followed by a single from Maggie Mullin through the right side. Julianna Costanzo drove in the first run of the night after a single up the middle brought in Crawford.

The Big Blue extended their lead 3-0 in the third. After back-to-back singles from Valeria Rivera and Paige Whittington, Madison Roland doubled to center field to bring them home. CAU got on the board in the fourth, but the Big Blue answered in the bottom of the inning to add two more. Rivera singled to left field to bring home Mullin and Bella Coffman scored on a wild pitch.

Going into the bottom of the fifth with the three-run lead, the Big Blue tacked on five more to secure the run-rule victory. Lexi Shadowens started the inning off with a double followed by a single from Calla Cooksey and Roland to score Shawdowens. Later in the inning with bases loaded, Mullin singled to right field to bring home Roland and Cooksey. A single from Coffman would bring in the ninth run with the tenth run coming in off of an error by CAU.

Taylor Fells earned the win in the circle for the Big Blue, throwing five innings only giving up three hits, two runs, two walks and striking out one.
