Baltimore, MD – Bluefield State University men's basketball fell to Virginia Union 61-55 to close out their season in the Quarterfinals of the CIAA Tournament.
The Panthers scored two quick buckets to take the early lead, but a three from Jordan Hinds pulled the Big Blue within one. Midway through the half the Panthers built a lead of 11, but a layup from Nduka Ogwu and back-to-back threes from Travon Cooper and Hinds cut the deficit to three. With 29 seconds left in the half, a Hinds three brought the Big Blue within one but a Panthers layup at the buzzer took them into the half with the 32-29 lead.
The Big Blue opened the second half with back-to-back buckets from Hinds and Cooper to take the one-point lead. Midway trough the half, a layup from Ja'Mere Redus put the Big Blue back on top 40-39. Going into the final five minutes of play down by four, the Panthers scored six unanswered points to extend their lead to ten. A layup from Redus with 11 seconds left cut the Panthers lead to six, but the Big Blue ran out of time falling 61-55.
The Big Blue were led by Redus with 18 points with Cooper adding 17 points. Hinds led the Big Blue in rebounding with seven and 13 points.
