Bluefield, VA - Bluefield State University softball took game one 12-11 and dropped game two 10-1 against Elizabeth City State.
Game One
Paige Whittington led off the bottom of the first with a bunt down the left field line and later stole second and third. Lexi Shadowens drew the walk and took second to move into scoring positionWhittington later scored on a wild pitch to go up 1-0. Valeria Rivera singled up the middle to bring home Shadowens. The Vikings scored one in the third to cut the Big Blue lead to one. The Big Blue answered in the bottom of the third with two runs to extend their lead 4-1.
The Big Blue pushed their lead 9-5 in the fourth after Whittington scored on a fielders choice, River hit a three run homerun to left field and Julianna Costanzo singled to left field to bring home Bella Coffman. The Vikings scored four in the sixth to pull within three.
The Vikings scored five in the seventh to even it up at 11 to force extra innings. After holding the Vikings scoreless in the top of eighth, a walk-off single from Coffman secured the 12-11 victory for the Big Blue.
Game Two
The Vikings bounced back in game two scoring two in the first and three in the second to take the early lead. A single from Whittington followed by a double from Coffman to bring one home for the Big Blue.Â
The Vikings added on in the fourth and four in the fifth to take down the Big Blue 10-1.Â
